St. James

St James is a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa, situated on the False Bay coast between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay. The suburb is situated between the rocky shore and a steep mountain. Its name derives from the early St James Catholic Church, built circa 1880. Most of the suburb was built between 1910 and 1950, after the railway line was built connecting Cape Town to False Bay.

The suburb is famed for the St James beach - well known for its colourful Victorian bathing boxes, tidal pool and rock pools, which are popular with children.

Most of the homes in the area date back to the days when the Cape was still a colony of the Victorian Empire. The houses were built from limestone, plaster and stone, with traditional thatched roofs. St James Cottage was built in 1853 and during the Anglo-Boer War, the owner Abraham Auret helped to hide prisoners of war in the loft of his barn after which they attempted to escape across the bay.

Ocean Varadero El Patriarca, Cuba

Hey Elizabeth!   The resort is beautiful, modern and really clean.   With the food there wasn't much variety. Basically the same thing every single night and even the 2 times we did go to the a la carte restaurants we weren't impressed. The chefs really need some more training unfortunately.   Another really bad thing was the pool. Tiles are popping off everywhere!!   The weather was great however. We only had rain twice and that was over night. The wind was a bit strong but it helped cool us down for the scorching heat.   The staff is wonderful as well except for the woman in sports bar who would make bad comments about everybody that walked up to the bar!! She thinks that non-Spanish people don't understand Spanish I guess. I actually made a complaint about her in my review cause I was so disgusted with her behaviour....very unprofessional.   All in all it was a good vacation.   The resort, beach, weather was beautiful.....the rest are just details that in the end don't really matter.
